BLACK & WHITE How to Achieve Balance in the Bathroom
Home design trends have been all about neutrals these last few years. White everything with touches of gray, gold, warm woods, or pops of color. And don't get me wrong, I'm definitely loving this trend right now. It makes feel fresh, clean and ready relax or conquer the day! Crazy right!? Well, this year I'm totally feeling the timeless, classic looks. Still loving the white washout, but what can be more classic than black and white!? It's a timeless, sophisticated look that can go from traditional to contemporary to anywhere in between.
So, the last few months I've been trying to figure out how I want to update my kids/guest bathroom. I obviously want something kid friendly but with a sophistacted hotel-esque look for guests, and I think this is the way I want to go! However, decorating with black and white can be tricky, so I've decided to share a few tips on how to acheive a balanced, sophisticated, and timeless look when choosing a black and white color scheme....you know, just in case you want to venture down this path with me in your own home. ;) And what's a blog post without a little eye candy inspiration!

When working in a smaller space such as a bathroom, you want to make sure you don't go over board with black. It will be really important here to make sure it is balanced. When incorporating black I recommend keeping it to trim, flooring, mirrors and hardware. As a general rule, keep your darker color closer to the floor.

Black and white can get very stark, very quickly so you want to add warmth to the space. You can achieve this by adding brown. Wait, do write me off yet! This is one of the VERY few times you'll ever hear me tell you to put black and brown together. But in this case, you're going to add in brown using woods in your cabinets. And it works like magic! You can also add gold tones but just make sure it's not a flash back to the 80's early 90's.

Pattern play. A great way to add black and white into a small space is with pattern. Add a bold wallpaper or timeless patterned floor and you'll be off to a great start!
